Located by the Mediterranean Sea, Palma has beautiful
beaches almost in the city centre (good to know if you would like to combine
sightseeing with relaxing under the palms).

The most important places to see in Palma are located in the old town. You will
find there the impressive and beautiful Cathedral La Seu, and right next to it the
amazing Royal Palace of La
Almudaina. For travellers interested in history and
architecture, visiting one of these places will be a highlight for sure. Even
the Royals are still using it during their holiday time.

The S’Hort del Rei Gardens, which are part of the palace are
a really nice place for a family stroll during the summer days. Escape the
hustle and bustle of the city and disconnect.

For art lovers, an important monument is the sculpture of
Joan Miro. Even more important is the Museum Foundation Juan March, which has a diverse collection of art f.e.
Salvador Dahli, sculptures and antique books. All located in the former
residence with amazing terrace and sea view.

Sightseeing in Palma

The most visible and eye-catching building of the city is of
course the Cathedral La Seu. You can ask one of most 400 000 inhabitants (1/2
inhabitants of the island) of Palma and they
will totally agree that is the most famous symbol of Mallorca.
You should take your time for full sightseeing of the Cathedral, which in fact
has 6 600 m2
(is 121 meters
long and 55 width).

Inside you can find breath-taking stained-glass windows. The
biggest of them has diameter of 13,8
m, which signifies the area of almost 100 m2 (almost an
apartment!), made from almost one thousand glass pieces. After several
renovations since the XIII century you can find a lot of different influences
in the architecture of La Seu. A part of it is also created by Gaudi.

Further away from the centre and also really worth to see is
the Port of Palma,
the biggest of five ports of the Balearic Islands
and one of the most important ports of the Spanish coast, receiving hundreds of
yachts and cruises through the whole year. Palma Port
is divided into few areas: commercial, sport and fishing. The waterfront
promenade is perfect for a walk or to enjoy lunch or coffee with great Mediterranean Sea views from one of the restaurants,
cafes.

Cathedral La Seu and Palace Almudaina in Palma de Mallorca

Get to Palma by train

If you would like to go by train on your trip to Palma from Alcudia or the northern part of the island, such as Alcudia, Port de Alcudia, Can Picafort, Playa de Muro, Pollenca, Port de Pollenca we have bad news, because there is no train which connects directly the north with capital.

If you want to go to Palma
by train from Alcudia, Port de Alcudia, Can Picafort, Playa de Muro, Port de
Pollenca, the only option is to combine the bus and the train. You have to go
to Inca by bus and then change for the train to Palma.

There was a time in 2016 when the project of the railway to
Alcudia from Inca was considered. After a lot of disagreements on the field of
the route planning, final price and protests of the local inhabitants the idea
died. Unfortunately, till today no strict decisions are made and the date of
new project is not confirmed.

Public bus Alcudia-Palma

One of the options for your trip from Alcudia to Palma is to go by local bus 351. It has several stops between Can Picafort – Alcudia – Inca – Palma. The duration of the way from Alcudia is approximately one hour. The ticket costs between 6 and 8 euro depending on the season you are visiting the island. You can buy the tickets only on the bus. Most drivers speak communicative English. Only cash is accepted. It arrives to only one main bus station in Palma – Estacion Intermodal, which is located next to the Plaza de Espana, a 20 min walk from the Cathedral. Below, you will find the link to the schedule.

Important:

During the high season (June-July-August) do not
wait to catch the last bus from Palma
to come back to Alcudia. You can surprise yourself with the amount of people
and not manage to get on the bus, which means you can enjoy city by night or
take a taxi back (80-120 euro).

Try to avoid local market days in Alcudia
(Tuesday, Sunday) or Inca (Thursday), buses get more than full and the chaos at
the bus stops is huge.

Local buses do not assure the seat, it is
possible that you will have to stand all the way long to Palma.

Here you will find the link to the TIB Website where you can
download the schedule of the bus:

https://www.tib.org/web/ctm/autobus/linia/351

Day trip to Palma from Alcudia

The most convenient option to get to Palma is day trip organised by NoFrills Excursions. They have the direct transport so no need to wasting your time going through Inca. They pick you up after breakfast from the hotel or nearby. The guide during the way to Palma gives you a lot of information, map and also the possibility to buy your tickets for Cathedral or boat trip in Palma Bay without having to wait in a long line to get it. The boat trip is a good option to have a look at the city from the sea.

The price of this tour to Palma is a little higher than
local bus (18,5 per adult and 12 per child), but you also get the opportunity
to make the guided city tour by bus which goes near the Port de Palma, which is
not easily accessible from city centre and to San Carlos Castle. There you have
a first stop for short visit and enjoy the view of the shore.

After this short sightseeing tour of Palma on the coach, you will be left close to
the cathedral and your guide will give you a city map and point out the old
town and the shopping area. From then you will have 4.5 or 5 hours free time to
explore the city at your leisure before meeting back at the coach for the
return journey back to Alcudia or your resort aboard an air conditioned coach
and with your seat guaranteed.

View for Cathedral La Seu during Palma de Mallorca sighseeing.

Trip from Alcudia to Palma by car

Palma by car is the option for people, who really like to
drive through the crowded spaces and are prepared for the stressful situations
on the roads. You can rent a car by one of the providers as Fabiola or Vanrell.
Have in mind that you have to be older than 23 years old and for some cars also
25.

Rental process is very easy, but during the high season or
days with bad weather cars are quickly out.

By car you can get by a lot of places around the city, but
as said before prepare yourself with a lot of patience. Car prices starts from
ca 35 euro per day, but you have to add the petrol and parking costs to the
overall price. What you should have in mind is that parking places are really
limited and it´s not easy to find a space to leave the car in the city.
Especially in the high season (June-August). Having a car for a Palma day out
is a great thing to see more and comeback later. Important if you hire a car
you should know it is not 24h rental, normally you should give the car back
till cerca 8 pm in the evening the same day you get it. The times can be
different depends on the car hire company.

Hope we left you interested and useful information and you
can decide which option will be the best for you during the stay on Mallorca.

Here also the summary to have a look once again:

If you need any additional details please do not hesitate to contact us per mail or simply leave the comment.
