7 Special Activities to Make Your Holiday in Mallorca Great
There are many things to do in Mallorca so if you are on holiday on the island for a short time like a week or two weeks, it is very difficult to choose which are really the best things to do in Mallorca, which places to visit are unmissable and which activities you just HAVE to try. Everyone is different and your preferences differ when you are travelling with family, children, adults, teenagers, groups of friends, couples… So we have put together a list of the very best activities in Mallorca: you must not leave the island without doing at least one thing on this list:
A Boat Trip: The Mallorca Top Activity
Being an island, a boat trip is the obvious top choice. But how to know which boat trip is the best one for you?
We like excellent value for money so our top choice is a catamaran excursion in Mallorca. Regardless of where you are staying, you will find an excellent catamaran departure close by. The catamaran tours generally last around five hours and take you sailing to a nice cove that you wouldn’t otherwise be able to reach, where you can sunbathe onboard, snorkel, swim or use the kayaks or stand-up-paddle boards provided. Food and drinks are often included and the price is normally quite economical.
The great thing about Mallorca is that being an island, there are a great many boat tours on offer from all beaches and resorts – logically the bigger resorts have a wider selection – so if you don’t fancy the catamaran tour, you have a wide selection of boat trips available. Perhaps you want to try an exclusive sailboat tour with food and drinks included and with your own captain to take you to whichever coves or beaches take your fancy. Or perhaps you are travelling with small children and prefer a simple pleasure boat cruise around the bay on a glass bottom boat.
Parasail: A Great Activity for the Summer
Are you looking for a bit of an adrenaline rush? Have you ever been parasailing? Well this is the perfect activity to try. Plus, it’s great for the whole family as children from five years old can participate.
You will drive out to sea on a speedboat and take it in turns to fly up into the air on an open parachute and will be towed by the motorboat, allowing you to glide through the air and feel the adrenaline rush through your veins as you do so. Depending on the wind conditions you can parasail together with one or more members of your family.
Active and Outdoor: The Challenge
The Challenge in Mallorca is a fun-filled activity, packed with excitement and adrenaline. On one magnificent adventure you get to try kayaking, snorkelling, cliff jumping and coast trekking. The whole adventure takes place on a beautiful, rugged cove in Alcudia with amazing views and great conditions for this kind of activity. The Challenge is an excellent morning or afternoon out for teenagers or young adults that want to have a great time and meet like-minded people. The Challenge is one of the top things to in Mallorca and is not to be missed.
Visit the Best Coves/Calas de Mallorca
Mallorca is famous for its “Calas” or coves. Being an island, there is an endless choice of beaches and coastline for all styles. Do you want to relax on an empty virgin cove and feel like you are on a desert island? Or do you need facilities, bars and sunbeds?
Here we recommend our top five coves to visit in Mallorca:
1. Caló des Moro: Considered one of the best coves in Mallorca, Caló des Moro is also one of the busiest in summer. Such is its popularity that car access to the beach is restricted. To get to Calo des Moró you must park in Cala Llombards, and walk about 30 minutes to Calo des Moró. Despite all this, the cove is spectacular. It is surrounded by high cliffs in a sea inlet, with crystal clear and multi-coloured waters. When you see it from the top, you are already speechless.
2. Cala San Vicente: Near the beautiful town of Pollensa, considered one of the most beautiful towns in Spain, we find Cala San Vicente. It is located in a small tourist nucleus that barely has 3 or 4 hotels, and which continues to preserve its calm character and leisurely pace. Cala San Vicente consists of 4 different coves: Cala Barques, Cala Clara, Cala Molins and Cala Carbo. Our favourite is Cala Molins. The beach is made of fine sand and has hammocks and umbrellas. Its waters are crystal clear and transparent.
3. Cala Agulla: This fabulous cove with fine white sand is located near Cala Ratjada. The beach more than 600 metres long, so even though it is a popular cove, there are no problems finding a place. Its seabed is gorgeous, with sand and various colours, which gives it that particular charm, and is one of the reasons why it is among the best coves in Mallorca.
4. Cala Mondrago: Near Santanyi, we find the Mondrago natural park, in which we find the cove with the same name. A beautiful inlet surrounded by a beautiful landscape, crystal clear waters and a beach of fine white sand. A true paradise, which is not surprising that it is on our list of the best coves in Mallorca.
5. Sa Calobra: Located in the Sierra de Tramuntana, the natural area of Sa Calobra is possibly one of the most spectacular areas in Mallorca, with amazing scenery. At the mouth of the Torrent de Pareis we find the Sa Calobra Cove, wedged between two high vertical walls of rock. Its location leaves you speechless, and you will see more people taking photos than sunbathing.
Family Day Out at the Caves of Drach
The Caves of Drach are considered the 8th wonder of the natural world and a visit should be one of the top activities in Mallorca on your list of things to do. The visit inside the Caves of Drach lasts approximately 80 minutes. You follow the route through the caves, marvelling as each cavern is bigger than the last and more impressive as you progress. The highlight of your visit will be the classical music concert inside the caves by the side of Lake Martel, one of Europe’s largest subterranean lakes. During the visit you will also witness a magical light show that recreates the sunrise.
Water Fun with a Jet Ski
For maximum adrenaline and fun, don’t hesitate to book a jet ski tour. On this adventure you will bound over the waves, delighting as the spray flies up around you. The jet ski experience is made in small groups and takes you to secret coves where you can snorkel and swim before climbing back onto your jet ski for more adventure on the sea.
A Day in Palma de Mallorca
One unmissable place to visit on your holidays in Mallorca is its capital Palma. This city has it all and more: shop til you drop in one of the most cosmopolitan shopping cities in the Mediterranean; get lost in the maze-like old town with its charming squares, haunting narrow streets and famous courtyards; visit Palma Cathedral for some serious culture, history and stunning architecture; take a boat tour of its extensive port and harbour, zipping in and out of the cruise ships and yachts; spend a day at the Bellver Castle with some of the best city views and Mallorca’s History Museum; or explore the tapas and restaurant scene, where you really can lose yourself in the tastes and the aromas of the authentic Mediterranean. There are also many guided tours and other activities available to help you make the most of your time in Palma.
