Family cooking Mallorcan food


One of the most typical dishes in Mallorca and very easy to cook. Tumbet is a vegetable dish and it is good to serve it as a starter or side dish combined with fish or meat. You can find it in almost every restaurant in Mallorca, but because of the present situation, check the ingredients below and let´s make a homemade one.


  • olive oil
  • 1 minced garlic
  • 1/2 cup of diced onion
  • 2 cups of diced tomatoes
  • 1/2 tsp of white sugar
  • 1 tsp of dried oregano
  • sea salt
  • pepper
  • potatoes
  • zucchini
  • red bell pepper
  • green bell pepper

It is a Mediterranean sauce mostly served with grilled lamb or grilled vegetables, but feel free to experiment 😉 There are some versions of it and today we will focus on typical garlic alioli.

Tutorial how to make alioli


  • 3 large garlic cloves
  • 450 ml sunflower oil
  • 1/2 lemon (juice)
  • 4 egg yolks
  • 45 ml water
  • 1 tsp salt

One of the most traditional plates in Mallorca and Spain based on rice. You can find a lot of kinds of paella, with seafood, meat or also vegetarian one. Everything depends on the interest here. Also not very difficult to prepare and ideal if you want to share it with more people for dinner. If you have a garden you can also prepare it on an open fire in a traditional pan.
